My Kitty Loves Me

A few years ago, I was getting ready for bed. I clicked on the lamp on my dresser as I wandered into the 1/2 bath off my bedroom. I brushed and flossed and came back into the bedroom to find a surprise on my downturned comforter and sheet; there lay what looked like a rose with a short stem. I thought maybe Michael had come to visit after work. I was thrilled at the thoughtfulness, but I'd never seen a rose with such a short stem. I crept closer to the bed and looked in the hall and listened for him rummaging through the fridge for leftovers, but all was quiet. There was just the kitty in the doorway.

I turned back to the bed and looked at my lovely rose. Upon closer inspection and with my glasses back on, I realized it looked rather odd. Maybe it got crushed by pizza boxes in his car and that's why the stem was so short. But then I noticed that the stem was an odd colour...and furry. It took me a minute to figure out what it was since I'd never seen a decapitated, legless, and skinned mouse!

Yes, I am so loved that Sabrina had brought me a painstakingly prepared midnight snack. I'm afraid that I was not as gracious as I could have been, but I was too shocked to keep from screaming like a girl while I hurried about the house to find paper towels and plastic bags to dispose of my gift and put the sheets in the wash.

Finally I settled my stomach and crawled into bed. My kitty snuggled up against my belly and began to purr. That's more like it. I'm a very lucky mom to have such a good kitty.
